H2H--Awesome Performances by Suzanne and Matt

Suzanne Evans and Matt Sessions had outstanding runs in the H2H Ultra 100K race on Saturday.
Suzanne's time of 8:30:45 was good enough for 3rd overall in the race, and this would have been a new women's course record except that one of the two people ahead of Suzanne was another woman, Denise Mchale. Doug Alward, who acted as Suzanne's "crew" on a miserable day, reported that Denise is a tough runner from the Yukon who won a $7,000 diamond in another race.

Suzanne's performance was superb, nonetheless. She finished only 12 minutes ahead of Phoenix teammate Matt Sessions, who was 4th overall in the race, 2nd male, and top masters finisher. Matt's time of 8:42:16 was his best ever in this event, I believe.

To put these performances in perspective, the Phoenix Derelicts relay team, made up of 8 fresh runners, took 7:44:42 to complete the course, and only one of us had to run in semi-darkness! We did have our excuses, though--four of us were recently or still recovering from colds/flu, and Brenda Philip ran bravely with an IT band injury. We placed 2nd in the Open Mixed division.

Notable performances were Chris Tomkinson (Leg 6 5th place finisher, and top masters finisher) and me (Nancy T) (Leg 1 7th place finisher, and top female finisher.)

Congratulations to our other team members: Brenda Philip, Adam Frilund (thanks for taking on Team Captain duties), Joakim Nilsson, Peggy Brown, Paul Tinari and Anna Hilborn. We couldn't have competed without the help of Vic Suddaby, who was our team volunteer--a big thanks, Vic!
