Richmond Oval 8K Race

August 16, 2009

A small but powerful Phoenix contingent made their mark at the Richmond Oval this morning, in the last race of the Lower Mainland Series.

Mikhail Titov, Adam Frilund, Dave Frilund, Nancy Tinari and John Atkinson all won medals in their age categories, with the first four taking gold in their divisions. Mik's was the most notable performance, as he finished 4th overall in a race that was admittedly light in the elite department. Mik and Nancy were also the first overall masters finishers.

Times are listed below, with the following insider's information: Everyone ran at least 90 sec. slower than normal on this course. It was rumoured to be over the 8K distance, and was also mainly a gravel surface rather than a road race.

Phoenix finishers (in order of finish)

Mikhail Titov 30:13
Adam Frilund 32:31

Dave Frilund 32:41
Nancy Tinari 33:35
John Atkinson 34:57 (running the 8K in the middle of a 24-mile training session)
Peggy Brown 42:55

It seems like organizers wanted to make a "home stretch" for the series and made it at least, at least, 0.4 km longer...I completed 12 races so far and this one was way longer than 8 km...Anyway, everybody run the same distance and it was fair; it was a slower time for everybody ;)
